Dr Manhattan vs DC/Marvel Superheroes Part 4: Dr. Manhattan vs Mr. Mxyzptlk, Scarlet Witch and Mr. Fantastic

Let's see who can kick Dr. Manhattan's (Jonathan Osterman) butt in all of DC/Marvel universes -

Dr. Manhattan vs Wanda Witch (Scarlet Witch)

Scarlet Witch (Wanda) possesses the power to modify probability fields. In other words, Scarlet Witch can change the probability of the occurrence of events consequently changing the reality itself. She has been depowered considerably so we are considering the original character that had more control over probability fields.

Can Scarlet Witch do anything against Dr. Manhattan - Since she can change the reality itself, she can most certainly effect Dr. Manhattan's ability to attack or defend. For example, she can reduce the probability of Dr. Manhattan's reconstruction to near zero and then Dr. Manhattan will just not be able to come back from dead!

How can Dr. Manhattan kill Scarlet Witch - Again, what is working in Dr. Manhattan's favor is the knowledge of future. Since Dr. Manhattan already knows exactly what Scarlet Witch will do even before she starts to think about it, he can easily make his own "changes" to reality!

So, in essence, Dr. Manhattan can kill Scarlet Witch even before she thinks of attacking.

Further, Dr. Manhattan can teleport himself out of Wanda's range of attack before she can attack.

Verdict - Dr. Manhattan wins hands down but mostly because he can predict future.

Dr. Manhattan vs Mr. Mxyzptlk

Mr. Mxyzptlk is perhaps tops the DC super villains in terms of magical powers. Mr. Mxyzptlk is a fifth dimension elf who is not bound by our three dimensional universe's laws and therefore can mess up the reality itself and in DC universe there is no way to beat him.

Can Mr. Mxyzptlk do anything against Dr. Manhattan - It unclear exactly what type of powers Mr. Mxyzptlk possesses and what are his limits.

Mr. Mxyzptlk generally operates by manipulating three dimensional reality as he wishes so he can easily turn Dr. Manhattan into dust or annihilate forever. But again (at the risk of repeating millions of times already), Dr. Manhattan can rebuild himself.

How can Dr. Manhattan kill Mr. Mxyzptlk -

Dr. Manhattan can predict Mr. Mxyzptlk's arrival and attacks but it's unclear if the future will stay the same after Mr. Mxyzptlk's intervention.

Dr. Manhattan can try to make Mr. Mxyzptlk spell his name backwards. This is the only "weakness" that Mr. Mxyzptlk imposed on himself. But Mr. Mxyzptlk can come back so it doesn't really matter a lot.

The only way to really fight Mr. Mxyzptlk is to fight him in a five dimensional reality. So, the answer largely depends on whether Dr. Manhattan has access to fifth dimension or not. Given the facts that we have though, Dr. Manhattan is certainly not bound by three dimension (Dr. Manhattan is at least a four dimensional being); it's possible that he can access all eleven dimensions. If so, Dr. Manhattan can easily destroy Mr. Mxyzptlk.

Verdict - Not enough information on both Mr. Mxyzptlk's and Dr. Manhattan's full powers but if we assume the worst then the fight can last till the end of the universe


Dr. Manhattan vs "smart" superheroes (Mr. Fantastic, Lex Luthor, Tony Stark, Brainiac, Dr. Doom etc)
Here we are including only those superheroes who don't really have an comparable super powers (if any) and those who primarily use their intelligence to fight their opponents. Mr. Fantastic from Fantastic Four, Dr. Victor Doom and Tony Stark are essentially the most intelligent heroes in Marvel universe and Lex Luthor and Brainiac are their DC villains counterparts.

Can our "smart" superheroes do anything against Dr. Manhattan - Not much. If there is one weakness that Dr. Manhattan has is a tachyon field. A Tachyon bombardment essentially takes away Dr. Manhattan's ability to predict future leaving him slightly confused. So it's possible to build Tachyon generators that slow him. But that's about it!

How can Dr. Manhattan kill Mr. Fantastic and team -

Well, Dr. Manhattan can annihilate the whole solar system, thats the easy way.

Dr. Manhattan can also track the Tachyon generators down and destroy them, thus getting his powers back.

Verdict - Dr. Manhattan wins hands down but the Tachyon attack might slow him down.

So, individually none of the strongest and smartest of DC and Marvel superheroes are a match for Dr. Manhattan. He really is probably the strongest superheroes ever created!

Dr. Manhattan vs Silver Surfer

Silver Surfer uses cosmic energy as well but draws it from Galactus.

Can Silver Surfer do anything against Dr. Manhattan - Silver Surfer can also use cosmic energy against Dr. Manhattan but eventually he will run out of it.

How can Dr. Manhattan kill Silver Surfer -

Dr. Manhattan can just break the link between Silver Surfer and Galactus thereby turning Silver Surfer into human (Noran Rad).

Verdict - Silver Surfer is no match for Dr. Manhattan!

Dr. Manhattan vs Phoenix (as Jean Grey)

Phoenix Force is another primordial force of nature using cosmic energy as a power source.

Can Phoenix do anything against Dr. Manhattan - Not much really as again even if she kills Dr. Manhattan, he will just come back for another round. The only thing in favor of phoenix force is that it doesn't have any known weaknesses.

How can Dr. Manhattan kill Phoenix -
It's debatable if Phoenix force, being a part of nature itself, can actually be destroyed. But Dr. Manhattan can destroy the body that Phoenix inhibits. In other words, Dr. Manhattan can annihilate Jean Grey forcing the Phoenix force to go find another body.

Verdict - A long drawn battle that might end with Dr. Manhattan killing phoenix's body but not the phoenix force itself.

Dr. Manhattan vs Telepaths (Charles Xavier / Martian Manhuter, Jean Grey etc)


Telepaths considered here was the ones that can control their opponent's brains.

Can Telepaths do anything against Dr. Manhattan -

It's unclear how Dr. Manhattan would respond to mind attacks or how vulnerable he might be and it's possible that a telepath can control/destroy him via mental attacks. But there are many ways he can become invulnerable to mental attacks because he can restructure his brain cells and his brain is not really human.

Many other superheroes are resistant to telepathy because of how their brains are structured. Notable examples are Wolverine and Mystique - Wolverine has become resistant to mind attacks because of Weapon-X program and his Healing-factor while Mystique is resistant to telepath attacks because of her ever restructuring brain cells!

Further, all telepaths have some range in which they can operate. Professor X can only work a few cities or so. Martian Manhunter is limited to the solar system or so. Jean Grey (as even Phoenix) is probably limited to a galaxy or so.

So, all Dr. Manhattan has to do is to either keep restructuring the way his brain is built or just teleport himself out of range of the attacking telepath! Further, the telepath can't attack first because Dr. Manhattan knows the future.

How can Dr. Manhattan kill telepaths - What is working in Dr. Manhattan's favor is that even if telepaths could harm him, he would know it even before they think about it because he can predict future! So, he can essentially kill a whole army of telepaths before they become any threat!

Verdict - Dr. Manhattan wins easily but primarily because of his ability to predict future (assuming telepaths can indeed hurt him).

Let's see who can kick Dr. Manhattan's (Jonathan Osterman) butt in all of DC/Marvel universes -

Dr. Manhattan vs Dr. Strange

Dr. Stranger is the master magician from the Marvel universe and at different levels controls all magic and mystical.

Can Dr. Strange do anything against Dr. Manhattan -

Dr. Strange can possible teleport Dr. Manhattan to some pocket dimensions but Dr. Manhattan can teleport himself right back.

Dr. Strange can possibly destroy Dr. Manhattan's "body" magically but Dr. Manhattan can rebuild it again. (Remember that Dr. Manhattan can come back from dead) Further, Dr. Manhattan will always know beforehand what Dr. Strange is going to do and can protect himself easily!

How can Dr. Manhattan kill Dr. Strange -

What works in Dr. Manhattan's favor is that he can come back from dead! So even if Dr. Strange "kills" Dr. Manhattan, still Dr. Manhattan can keep coming back eventually killing Strange.

Dr. Manhattan can essentially turn any type of energy into a weapon against Dr. Strange. So whatever magic Dr. Strange might use, Dr. Manhattan can negate it and turn it back onto Strange.

Dr. Manhattan has an endless supply of powers but Dr. Strange doesn't so after Dr. Strange has used up all his magic, Dr. Manhattan can dispatch him (probably after coming back from dead multiple times)

Verdict - Long drawn battle and Strange might be able to temporarily defeat/kill Dr. Manhattan but Dr. Manhattan will keep coming back until Dr. Strange is all out.


Dr. Manhattan vs Doomsday

Doomsday is perhaps the strongest DC Villain with the unique super power that he comes back from dead becoming invulnerable to anyone/anything that killed him! Doomsday has killed Superman multiple times too.

Can Doomsday do anything against Dr. Manhattan - Nothing. Nada. Doomsday's physical strength is useless against Dr. Manhattan so he can't hurt Dr. Manhattan in any way.

How can Dr. Manhattan kill Doomsday -

Dr. Manhattan can kill Doomsday in multiple ways - Blunt super strength, intrinsic field removal etc but Doomsday can most probably rebuild himself each time.

Dr. Manhattan can lock Doomsday in some time loop from where Doomsday can never escape. By doing this, Dr. Manhattan would ensure that Doomsday doesn't become resistant to Dr. Manhattan's powers (as Doomsday will be imprisoned and not killed).

Verdict - Although Dr. Manhattan can easily kill Doomsday in a variety of ways, Doomsday will come back stronger so Dr. Manhattan won't kill him. Instead, Dr. Manhattan will imprison him in some time loops.

Dr. Manhattan vs Galactus
Galactus is the most primitive force of nature surviving the big bang and uses the cosmic energy itself as his power source. Galactus falls into the category of gods in Marvel universe.

Can Galactus do anything against Dr. Manhattan - Using cosmic energy, Galactus might easily hurt Dr. Manhattan as it's unclear how Dr. Manhattan's body responds to cosmic attacks. But again, Dr. Manhattan can rebuild himself, so Galactus' will eventually run out of energy.

How can Dr. Manhattan kill Galactus -

Dr. Manhattan can spontaneously create the universal nullifier and kill Galactus with it (Nullifier is the only weapon that can kill Galactus)

Dr. Manhattan can destroy all surrounding galaxies that have "edible" planets and let Galactus starve to death! (Galactus needs planets to survive)

Dr. Manhattan himself can attack Galactus with cosmic energy.

Verdict - Galactus might fight back but Dr. Manhattan has many easy ways of killing him.

So following many requests for comparing Watchmen character's super powers with DC and Marvel superhero's powers, I figured it would actually be pretty cool to see how do Watchmen characters compare in their super powers. Thus, the present post compares Dr. Manhattan with major DC and Marvel superheroes (and super villains)! Let's see who can kick Dr. Manhattan's (Jonathan Osterman) butt in all of DC/Marvel universes -

Dr Manhattan vs Superman

Superman is perhaps the strongest super hero in DC universe with his various aliases like Superboy, Superman Prime, Superboy Prime and so on varying a bit in powers and weaknesses. So how does Dr. Manhattan compares to Superman? Dr. Manhattan can probably destroy Superman even before Superman realizes what happened! How?

Can Superman do anything against Dr. Manhattan - Nothing. Nada. Superman's super speed is useless as Dr. Manhattan knowing the future will know where Superman's gonna fly to! Superman's heat vision is useless as heat can't hurt Dr. Manhattan. Superman's super strength is useless as Dr. Manhattan is invulnerable to physical damage!

How can Dr. Manhattan kill Superman -

Dr. Manhattan can remove Superman's intrinsic field and leave his individual atoms floating around in space. Result - Superman dead before he even knew what hit him!

Dr. Manhattan can turn the planet into solid Kryptonite using his matter manipulation powers. Superman is helpless against Kryptonite.

Dr. Manhattan can turn the yellow sun into a red giant thereby turning Superman into regular human.

Dr. Manhattan can destroy the sun there by taking out Superman's power source and then leave Superman to die.

Dr. Manhattan can beat Superman just by blunt strength as well as Dr. Manhattan's power source is the universe itself!

Verdict - Dr Manhattan wins hands down against Superman.

Dr. Manhattan vs. Incredible Hulk

Hulk is probably the strongest character in Marvel universe and like Superman, Hulk too has many different variations differing slightly in powers and weaknesses.

Can Hulk do anything against Dr. Manhattan - Again nothing. Nada. Hulk's super strength is useless against Dr. Manhattan who is impervious to physical damage.

How can Dr. Manhattan kill Hulk -

Dr. Manhattan can again remove the intrinsic field of Hulk's body (or may be all of Earth including Hulk) and Hulk don't seem to have any powers to resist that attack! Hulk dead in a split second!

Dr. Manhattan can remove the Adrenaline flowing in Hulk's brain and Hulk will turn into Dr. Banner without the precious Adrenaline! This is very neat and Dr. Manhattan can do it without any major effort.

Dr. Manhattan can turn into Ms. Betty (Hulk's girlfriend) and calm him down! Hulk won't hit Betty and will turn into Dr. Manner in no time!

Verdict - Dr Manhattan beats Hulk easily.
